What personal data we collect and why we collect it
Comments
When visitors leave comments on the site, we collect the data shown in the comments form, along with the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help with spam detection.
An anonymized string created from your email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if you are using it. The Gravatar service privacy policy is available here: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of your comment, your profile picture is visible to the public in the context of your comment.
Media
If you upload images to the website, avoid uploading images with embedded location data (EXIF GPS). Visitors to the website can download and extract any location data from images.
Contact forms
We keep any information you submit through a contact form, but we do not sell your information to outside companies. We may use this information to send you marketing correspondence.
Cookies
If you leave a comment on our site, you may opt-in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies. These are for your convenience so you don’t have to re-enter your details when leaving another comment. These cookies last for one year.
If you have an account and log in, we will set a temporary cookie to determine if your browser accepts cookies. This contains no personal data and is discarded when you close your browser.
When you log in, we also set up cookies to save your login information and display preferences. Login cookies last for two days, screen options cookies for a year. Selecting “Remember Me” will keep you logged in for two weeks. Logging out removes the login cookies.
If you edit or publish an article, an additional cookie will be saved in your browser indicating the post ID of the article you edited. It expires after 1 day.
Cookies are also used to handle importing and restoring backups.
Embedded content from other websites
Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g., videos, images, articles). Embedded content from other websites behaves exactly as if you visited the other website directly.
These sites may collect data, use cookies, embed third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with the embedded content, including tracking if you have an account and are logged in.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics, which transmits website traffic data to Google servers in the U.S. Google Analytics does not identify individual users or associate your IP address with other Google data. Reports help us understand traffic and webpage usage.

How long we retain your data
If you leave a comment, it and its metadata are retained indefinitely so we can approve follow-ups automatically.
For registered users, we store the personal information in their profile. All users can view, edit, or delete their data at any time (except their username). Administrators can also access and edit this information.
What rights you have over your data
If you have an account or have left comments, you can request an exported file of your personal data or ask us to delete it. This excludes data we must keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.
